Simone Biles Sparking Outrage Over $23K Red Carpet Glam Cost
Being an A-list celebrity seems like a dream. However, maintaining that image carries a heavy price tag—just ask legendary gymnast Simone Biles.

This week, Simone took to TikTok to share a candid breakdown of the astronomical fees she paid for a professional stylist and a full hair and makeup team for a recent red carpet appearance. Addressing her video to fellow stars and content creators, she asked the internet for a reality check: “I just need to know if this is normal, because I know going outside is expensive as fuck these days, but is it this expensive?”

While the Olympic gold medalist didn’t name the specific event or the individual artists she employed, she revealed that the “grand total” for her stylist fee, hair, and makeup reached a staggering $23,000.

In the comment section, she clarified that even with that five-figure investment, her gown was actually a rental that had to be returned immediately following the event.
Simone—who currently boasts an estimated net worth of roughly $25 million—explained that her goal wasn’t to incite a “bash” session against the industry, but rather to understand if this price point is the “fucking normal” standard for high-profile appearances.

“I get inflation, like I get prices these days have gone up. But if that’s the new norm, y’all can have it. Y’all will never see me at another event. I’m going to sit my ass right here where it’s free,” she remarked. “I see a lot of y’all at events, and there’s no way you guys are paying these prices each and every time.”

Predictably, the discourse surrounding this revelation is a total minefield. While most of us have never booked a professional glam squad, the consensus among other athletes and influencers in Simone’s comments is that a $23,000 invoice is wild, even by Hollywood standards.

Based on her recent public schedule, many suspect Simone’s $23K bill was for the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, Spain. This has led to speculation that the total likely included international travel and luxury accommodation for her entire beauty crew.

“Girl, this is not a good look in this economy,” one Reddit user commented. Meanwhile, a follower on her TikTok echoed the sentiment with heavy sarcasm: “This isn’t tone deaf at all when people are struggling with basic necessities like food and healthcare.”

“Damn. Talk about being out of touch,” another Reddit critic added. In the replies, another user compared the expense to everyday struggles: “The gas station near me went from 3.95 to 4.59 overnight so going outside definitely is expensive but not for the reasons she thinks.”
“I like her and wish her the best, but this is not it,” another person noted. “If it was really a pricing gut check, she must have dozens of similarly positioned friends to text. This is some kind of weird flex, like, ‘I can spend $23K and be humorously annoyed from my mansion… maybe it’s inflation.’ Nahhhhh. Just kind of off-putting.”
In Simone’s defense, she explicitly stated the video was intended for her peers in the celebrity and influencer world. However, the sheer scale of the expense remains difficult for the average person to wrap their head around. Looking at one side of the coin, Beyoncé actually served as a co-chair for the Met Gala this year. Because of that, several attendees were quizzed on their favorite Bey hits, including Colman Domingo, Angela Bassett, Nicole Kidman, and Chase Infiniti. In context, the question was totally relevant, and Paul’s body language could be seen as brushing off her artistic impact.
