Jennifer Lopez Called Mean: Reality Star Shares Diva Story
RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Mia Starr recently opened up about what she described as the “worst experience” of her professional career while working with Jennifer Lopez on the iconic 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.

Mia appeared on a recent episode of fellow Drag Race star Mistress Isabelle Brooks’s YouTube series, where she reflected on dancing in Jennifer’s high-octane performance alongside Shakira.

According to Mia, she was initially thrilled to work with Jennifer and even left a casting job on The Voice to secure the spot. However, she claimed the professional experience took a negative turn on the second day of rehearsals.

Mia claimed that Jennifer asked her to remove her shirt and then reacted negatively when she complied with the request.

“She’s like, ‘Can you take off your shirt?'” Mia claimed. “I’m like, fuck. I take off my shirt, and she makes this face, followed by, ‘Guys, I need you to elevate yourselves. I need you to go to the gym and take care of yourself.'”

“She then made us rehearse for nine hours shirtless,” Mia continued. “So as I’m dancing, I’m jiggling the fuck out of the entire nine hours. It was, like, a hazing. I was like why am I here? Why am I doing this to myself?”

Mia described another alleged encounter the next day when the crew was treated to elephant ears and ice cream. Despite the tension from the previous day, Mia got in line anyway. “I was the first person in line,” she said. “I was being petty. I was like, ‘Thank you.’ And then she looked at me and gave, ‘Guys, I need you to elevate yourself.'”

Despite those difficult interactions, Mia admitted she still found Jennifer’s physical presence stunning.

“I would be in front of her and be like, damn, this bitch is gorgeous,” she said. “But would I work with her again? No.”

Mia — who has also reportedly worked with superstars like Rihanna and Britney Spears — claimed that she was actually invited to another gig with the singer after that, but declined. “[It was] the worst experience that I’ve ever had,” she said.

Speaking separately to Entertainment Weekly, Mia also claimed that Jennifer would often show up at the end of long rehearsal days and demand major changes to the set. “[She would] always come in rehearsals maybe the last two hours after we’d rehearsed eight hours of a 10-hour day, and she’d just be like, ‘I hate it,’ and give this big spiel,” Mia said.

Mia noted that Jennifer was “super sweet” to the children involved in the halftime show, but claimed the adult dancers were frequently criticized. “[She] would always pretty much remind [the adult dancers] that we look like shit,” Mia alleged.

“I’m busting my ass,” she continued. “This dream job wasn’t what I expected in the sense that this is the biggest moment of a dancer’s career, and it felt like hell up until the point of the performance.”

Mia claimed Jennifer was ultimately happy with the final result of the show. So far, Jennifer hasn’t publicly responded to Mia’s claims, but we’ve contacted her reps for comment.

Looking at one side of the coin, Beyoncé actually served as a co-chair for the Met Gala this year. Because of that, several attendees were quizzed on their favorite Bey hits, including Colman Domingo, Angela Bassett, Nicole Kidman, and Chase Infiniti. In context, the question was totally relevant, and Paul’s body language could be seen as brushing off her artistic impact.
