Halle Bailey You, Me & Tuscany: Black Girl Whimsy and Joy
The expectations surrounding the release of You, Me & Tuscany feel incredibly high.

For many Black women, the pressure to be perfect is a lived reality we face every single day.

Universal Pictures
With reports showing that nearly 600,000 high-achieving Black women have faced layoffs in the past year, the way You, Me & Tuscany carries the weight of the Black romantic comedy genre at the box office is a burden we recognize all too well.

In the professional world, there is often no grace for a low-productivity day, health struggles, or even a simple bad mood. At best, Black women are labeled as “not a team player”; at worst, their entire livelihood is at stake.
Despite these pressures, You, Me & Tuscany flourished during its opening weekend, debuting in fourth place with a solid $8M and earning an “A-” CinemaScore. The competition is fierce, with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the Zendaya and Robert Pattinson drama The Drama, and Project Hail Mary drawing massive crowds.

Most importantly, this film delivers exactly what a great rom-com should: a perfect afternoon out with friends, plenty of popcorn, and a stunning leading man to swoon over.

Beyond the box office numbers, the real victory for Black women is the protagonist, Anna. Played by real-life Disney princess Halle Bailey, Anna is a refreshing reminder to embrace whimsy, take big risks, and understand that making mistakes is a natural part of the journey.

To give you some context on my perspective: a friend once dubbed me the “brown Molly Ringwald” because of my obsession with ’80s rom-com energy.

Imagine a multicultural 2000s version of Molly, complete with butterfly clips and an *NSYNC binder.
She isn’t wrong. When I’m not diving into a cozy mystery—currently obsessed with The Golden Girls murder series—I’m usually lost in a romantic novel filled with classic tropes. I’ve even been writing my own manuscript, hoping to see a story like mine on the silver screen someday.

One of my biggest inspirations is Gina Prince-Bythewood, the genius behind Love & Basketball.
This is exactly why Anna resonates so deeply. She is the quintessential rom-com lead who isn’t afraid to be free-spirited. She serves as the perfect antidote for every Black girl who has been told that “life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.”

Admittedly, Anna’s life isn’t perfect when the story begins. She put her culinary dreams on hold to care for her ailing mother and is now navigating the heavy fog of grief and financial instability. Yet, her spirit remains unbroken.

Universal Pictures
We get to watch her chase her version of happiness. I won’t lie—her antics are wild. At one point, I leaned over to my friend and whispered that while I love Anna, “she’s a bit of a problem.” She literally spends half the movie in a wedding dress pretending to marry a man she barely knows.

Universal Pictures
She moves with a sense of whimsy usually reserved for white leads (or Jennifer Lopez in specific roles). Whether she’s using three different credit cards to pay for a single hotel burger or flying from NYC to Tuscany on a whim, she embodies that “it’ll all work out” energy we usually see from Kate Hudson. I love seeing Halle Bailey inhabit that space.

Universal Pictures
It’s especially evident when she struts through town in her boss’s luxury clothes while walking a pedigree dog. We all know how that would play out for a Black girl in real life, but seeing Halle “spread her wings” allows the audience to relax and get swept up in the beautiful chaos.

Universal Pictures
Simply put, Anna does everything Black women are usually discouraged from doing, even in “fluff” movies designed for daydreaming.

Thanks to Halle’s “Ariel” aura, you just know that things will eventually fall into place for Anna.

Anna is a “wholesome anti-hero.” Her messiness is her appeal. For two hours, she is given full permission to be herself. Watching her allowed me to finally drop my shoulders and relax, knowing her fairytale ending was guaranteed.

The gorgeous men speaking Italian certainly added to the cozy, romantic atmosphere of the film.
Now, I’m not advocating for everyone to follow Anna’s exact footsteps—breaking and entering into a magical Italian villa is definitely not legally advised.

Universal Pictures
However, Anna gives us the mental space to believe in the best possible outcomes for our own lives. It reminds us that Black women deserve to “eat, pray, and love” in Italy and find their own dream partners.

Universal Pictures
It’s a reminder to set aside the “shoulds,” put the phone on Do Not Disturb, and pursue what truly lights us up.

Whether it’s opening a restaurant or writing a novel, our dreams deserve our attention and time, regardless of our daily responsibilities.

And of course, it’s about finding that dream man.

No, Aaron Pierre isn’t actually in You, Me & Tuscany, but he’s definitely on my personal manifestation vision board.
You, Me & Tuscany is in theaters now. I’m already counting down the days until it hits streaming platforms so it can become my go-to comfort watch.

“We’ll get in the biggest fucking fight you’ve ever heard of in your life…and five minutes later, we’re back, laughing and making music,” she explained. “It’s sibling shit. There’s nothing else in the world like sibling relationships.” It is a sentiment many with siblings can certainly relate to.

Shannon Elizabeth OnlyFans Earnings: American Pie Star Wealth
If you’re a millennial of a certain age, you know Shannon Elizabeth from a few things. Between the American Pie franchise, Tomcats, Scary Movie, and even a Jay and Silent Bob movie or two, she was arguably one of the queens of the “movies you watched at a sleepover party” subcategory.

©Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection
Shannon’s acting career has remained fairly steady since then, but she recently took on a new role entirely: OnlyFans creator. She joined the service just a few weeks ago, telling People at the time that starting her own OnlyFans was because “I’ve spent my entire career working in Hollywood, where other people controlled the narrative and the outcome of my career. This new chapter is about changing that, showing off a more sexy side no one has seen, and being closer to my fans.”

Well, just a few weeks later, People has a new report on how the OnlyFans foray is going for Shannon — and as it turns out, she’s seemingly struck content-creator gold in the process.

A source tells the publication that Shannon brought in “more than seven figures” on the first week she joined OnlyFans. Seven figures! Let that sink in.

The source adds that Shannon “is really making a name for herself” on her page, and they also note that there is no full nudity featured on it. “She is super happy she now gets to take control and be engaged with her fans,” the source adds.

See, this is what Margo was thinking when she said she had money troubles…we’ve reached out to Shannon’s reps for further comment and will let you know if we hear anything back.

Lisa Kudrow Exposes Brutal Friends Behind the Scenes Secrets
Fans are reeling after Lisa Kudrow shared shocking revelations regarding the “mean behavior” that occurred off-camera during the filming of the hit sitcom Friends.

Samir Hussein / Getty Images
As most pop culture fans are aware, Lisa Kudrow and her legendary co-stars—Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—became household names in the ‘90s. They led the iconic NBC sitcom for 10 seasons, spanning from 1994 until 2004.

Nbc / Getty Images
The series was a massive commercial triumph; reports indicate the lead six stars began with a salary of $22,500 per episode in Season 1. By the time the third season rolled around, that figure had climbed to a substantial $100,000.

Vinnie Zuffante / Getty Images
By Season 9, the ensemble famously negotiated a record-breaking $1 million per episode—at the time, the highest deal ever secured for a sitcom. Most seasons featured 24 to 25 episodes, making the cast incredibly wealthy.

Even though Friends remains a cultural phenomenon, Lisa is now exposing the darker side of the production. She recently spoke out about the mistreatment actors faced from the writing staff—specifically targeting the experiences of herself, Jennifer, and Courteney.

Gregg Deguire / Getty Images
In a candid interview with the Times, Lisa noted that the Friends writers’ room consisted of about 12 to 15 people, the majority of whom were men. She told the outlet: “There was definitely mean stuff going on behind the scenes.”

Araya Doheny / Getty Images
“Don’t forget, we were recording in front of a live audience of 400, and if you messed up one of these writers’ lines or it didn’t get the perfect response, they could be like: ‘Can’t the bitch fucking read? She’s not even trying. She fucked up my line,’” Lisa recalled. “And we know that back in the room the guys would be up late discussing their sexual fantasies about Jennifer and Courteney. It was intense.”

Nbc / Getty Images
The interview also touched upon a past legal battle where writers’ assistant Amaani Lyle filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the production. Lyle, whose role involved transcribing brainstorming sessions, was stunned by the graphic nature of the discussions regarding Jennifer and Courteney, which allegedly included crude gestures and sexual comments.

Nbc / Getty Images
While Amaani ultimately lost her legal case, Lisa reflected on the environment: “Oh, it could be brutal, but these guys — and it was mostly men in there — were sitting up until 3 a.m. trying to write the show, so my attitude was: ‘Say what you like about me behind my back because then it doesn’t matter.’”

Nbc / Getty Images
These insights have come as a shock to long-term fans who are voicing their horror online. Reacting to the interview on Reddit, one user commented: “What the fuck. And this is when Jennifer and Courtney were relatively quite powerful in the industry and you certainly didn’t want to piss them off. You know if those writers made disparaging comments about lead actors they would be fired.”

Jim Smeal / Getty Images
“Good on her for speaking out about it now, can’t imagine how difficult it must’ve been for the actors to do their jobs in an environment like this,” another fan noted. Another person contributed: “Sorry to hear that, but happy that’s she’s spilling the beans, no more protecting of shitty men 🤝”

Jamie Mccarthy / Getty Images
Finally, one user simply summed up the collective frustration by stating: “men are disgusting.”
