She wasn’t lying, actually. She’s talked about Kurt Cobain and modern technology in prior interviews. As Variety notes, she said in 2014, “Look at Kurt Cobain — he hardly even saw a computer! The digital stuff that’s going on is so exciting.” In 2015, she said, “I was thinking about Kurt Cobain the other day and he died without knowing the internet, and I’m totally blown away by that.” Finally, in 2016, she said, “If I’d died at 27, the age that Kurt Cobain died in 1994, I’d never have even known there was an internet!”

2. Nicki Minaj once claimed that she was friends with Princess Di. After a fan at a concert said she was from Wales, Minaj replied, “Wales…It reminds me of a dear friend of mine. Well, she’s not here anymore, the Princess of Wales.” She then led a moment of silence for Diana. Minaj was 14 when Diana died, and I highly doubt the two were “dear friends.”

3. Probably one of the most bizarre things a celeb has ever claimed also involves Minaj…yep, I’m talking about when she tweeted that her cousin had a friend who got giant testicles from the COVID vaccine. “My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” she wrote. She later recommended getting vaccinated and mask-wearing, but was still slammed for her wild claim.

4. I’m on the same page as Viggo Mortensen in his reported rant about McDonald’s French fries…but I can’t believe it’s coming from Mortensen. Apparently, in a 2015 interview with Esquire, he said, “The McDonald’s French fry is unbelievable. When you bite into it, you think: It’s so tasty, it can’t be real. As soon as it gets cold, it turns to lard and flubble. I mean, have you ever tried to eat a McDonald’s French fry that’s gone cold? That’s one of the circles of hell. The gulf between the warm, fresh, lightly salted McDonald’s French fry and the cold McDonald’s French fry is as great a gulf as any I know.”

5. I’m kind of obsessed with the time Liam Neeson claimed that a horse “remembered him” from a prior film they’d worked on. “I’m saying this horse knew me. He actually remembered me from another western we made a while back … He whinnied when he saw me. And pawed the ground.” Neeson said the horse remembered him because he’d taken “special care of him” on set.

6. Russel Crowe nodded along to Neeson’s tweet, writing on X (then Twitter), “This is absolutely true. There’s a horse, George, who I gave the speech in the forest in Gladiator on. Years later he was on the set of Robin Hood and we would have a chat every day. Same with the white horse, Rusty, in Robin Hood. We chatted again on Les Mis. Lifelong friends.” Uh…what does that “chat” entail, exactly?

7. Woody Harrelson was obviously joking, but I still find this quote bizarre, especially given the context. After Woody Harrelson allegedly pushed a TMZ photographer at an airport, he blamed his actions on mistaking the photographer for a zombie. “I wrapped a movie called Zombieland, in which I was constantly under assault by zombies, then flew to New York, still very much in character,” Harrelson said. “With my daughter at the airport I was startled by a paparazzo, who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie.”

8. AnnaLynne McCord’s poem to Vladimir Putin about how things would be different if she were his mother is still one of the strangest things a celebrity has ever done, IMO. In the poem, which she read aloud on X (then Twitter), she said, “I’m so sorry that I was not your mother. If I was your mother you would have been so loved. Held in the arms of joyous light. Never would this story’s plight, the world unfurled before our eyes. A pure demise. Of nation sitting peaceful under a night sky.”

9. We only know this quote secondhand, but it’s still one of my favorites. According to Julia Stiles, Prince invited the cast of The Bourne Ultimatum to one of his concerts. After the show, they were “summoned into a room to meet him.” Attempting to make small talk, Matt Damon asked Prince, “So you live in Minnesota? I hear you live in Minnesota.” Prince apparently replied, “I live inside my own heart, Matt Damon.”

10. Another great alleged Prince quote comes from TRL video jockey Dave Holmes, who revealed they were supposed to do an episode on Prince, but he showed up 50 minutes late. Holmes said that the host, Carson Daly, said to Prince, “We were ­expecting you a little earlier, so there’s a lot we have to get through. We don’t have a lot of time.” Apparently, Prince replied, “I don’t use time.” Holmes said that Carson asked, “So what do you use?” and “Prince paused for a moment and then said, ‘Truth.'”

11. Tom Cruise has done a lot of weird things over the years, but one of his oddest remarks comes from a video promoting Scientology. Cruise inexplicably said, “Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident, it’s not like anyone else. As you drive past, you know you have to do something about it because you know you’re the only one who can help.” Which just leaves me with a LOT of questions.

12. Replying to a fan who asked her what was in her purse, Katy Perry had an…interesting answer. Apparently, her purse that day was empty, but it had once contained something odd. “One of the first times I went to the Grammys, I got to share a dressing room with Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift,” she recalled. “I asked them for a lock of their hair from each one of them, which is totally creepy, but awesome. I put little bows on them individually and put them in my purse. And that was my little secret and I’m a freak!” …Okay.

Kim Kardashian has also had a number of bizarre yet kind of iconic quotes over the years, including claiming that she can smell cavities. “It’s a very specific smell — not a bad-breath smell — but something that is really strong.” In fact, this isn’t the first time she claimed this. Back in 2009, she tweeted, “I have a really odd talent. I can smell when someone has cavaties! I have never been wrong yet! they don’t even have 2 be super close by me.”

16. She also once said she’d eat poop if it helped her look young. “If you told me that I literally had to eat poop every single day and I would look younger, I might. I just might,” she told the New York Times. She later said she was “kind of joking,” but added, “But now that I think about it, I would probably eat shit if someone told me, ‘If you eat this bowl of poop every single day, you’ll look younger.'” However, she could only eat “just a bite,” saying, “I don’t think I can do a whole bowl.” Yeah, me neither, Kim.

17. In his book, Van Halen member Sammy Hagar wrote that he had an alien abduction experience. He told MTV, “Aliens were plugged into me. It was a download situation. This was long before computers or any kind of wireless. There weren’t even wireless telephones. In another dubious claim, Jada Pinkett Smith once said she knew immediately after having sex that she was pregnant with Jaden. “I knew the moment after the act that I was pregnant,” she said, adding the iconic quote, “It was almost like that — you know those big locks on the bank? Those big turning locks? I could feel that in my womb, in my uterus.” I…don’t think that’s a thing.

Another wild Jada quote (there’s no shortage) involves her grandmother. “My grandmother taught me about self-pleasuring because she wanted me to know that that pleasure was from me,” Pinkett Smith revealed on her show Red Table Talk. “She didn’t want me to fall into the hands of a man — and if he gave me pleasure, to think that that was him. And she taught me at nine!” That’s nice, Jada, but we didn’t need to know that.

When Angelina Jolie won her first Oscar (for Girl, Interrupted), she told the world she was “in love” with her brother, James Haven. “I’m so in love with my brother right now. He told Stephen Colbert, “I know this sounds really far out and I don’t know if it’s real or not, but sometimes I think I can go all the way back to in-utero and feeling like I could see faces in the dark or something. I know that sounds powerfully abstract, but that somehow seems like maybe it happened. 32.Mark Wahlberg once claimed he could’ve stopped 9/11. He was actually meant to be on one of the flights that crashed, but decided to fly to another location instead. He told Men’s Journal, “If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'” Mark, can you land a plane?

33. Celebs get REAL weird about 9/11. Johnny Depp once suggested that the US government should’ve sprayed LSD over Iraq to draw out Osama Bin Laden. “You get a bunch of fucking planes, big fucking planes that spray shit, and you drop LSD 25. You saturate the fucking place. Every single thing will walk out of their cave smiling, happy,” he told the interviewer.

34. And former boyband star Lee Ryan had a head-scratching comment when it came to the tragedy. He said, “Who gives a fuck about New York when elephants are being killed?” He continued, “They are ignoring animals that are more important. Animals need saving and that’s more important. This New York thing is being blown out of all proportion.”

He later apologized, writing in a statement how sad he was about 9/11 and that, “I’m not good with words, and I get mixed up, but I know what I’m saying when I say I’m sorry.”

35. This was well after the attack, but Gregg Sulkin once tweeted, “Wow what a workout. Had to run up flights of stairs & all I could think of were the brave firefighters climbing the twin towers on 9/11.” …Eek.

Sulkin later deleted the tweet, and also tweeted, “So much respect for those who put their lives in danger to protect us,” and in another tweet: “& they run up flights of stairs with heavy gear on their backs. Puts everything into perspective. #respect.”

36. Sean Penn randomly got pretty worked up about 9/11 in an interview with Variety, saying that if he were president at the time, “I’d have let White House counsel know that they are on vacation. I’m not consulting with them. If I have to go to prison, I’ll go, but I’m going to kill them. I’m killing everyone that did this,” he said. Because apparently Penn is some sort of Liam Neeson–in–Taken–style vigilante.

37. Maybe not a celebrity in the traditional sense, but speaking of 9/11, George W. Bush has two quotes that I genuinely quote to my friends and family members all the time. The first? When he was asked on a golf course about Al-Qaeda, and replied, “I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you… Now watch this drive.” He then proceeded to hit a golf ball.

38. The second was in 2001, when the White House, for the first time, lit a Menorah for Hanukkah. After lighting the candles, a reporter asked Bush about a videotape of Osama bin Laden (this was just a few months after 9/11). Bush replied, “I couldn’t imagine somebody like Osama bin Laden understanding the joy of Hanukkah.” Iconic, honestly.

The full quote goes on to mention Christmas and “peace and hope” generally as well, but out of context, it truly is just one of the most bizarre presidential remarks. Well, at least until 2016.

39. Celebs have got a super artistic way of putting things. Like in 2016, when Kid Cudi said of his music career so far: “People think that I’ve peaked. I haven’t even gotten a f—ing nut off yet,” he said. “I’ve been pre-cumming for the last eight years. I haven’t even ejaculated a full spew yet. So motherf—rs better get prepared.” How poetic.

In one of the most ridiculously out-of-touch quotes I can ever remember reading, Brie Larson once said she goes to farmers’ markets and asks for things they don’t have so that she can remind herself what rejection feels like. “Lately, I’ve been getting too much attention with the Met Gala and work going so well that I try to find rejection in my day. I’ll seek out someone on the street or at the farmers’ market and ask for something where I know they’ll say no. No one likes rejection, but it’s real. And I don’t want to lose that feeling,” Larson revealed. Oh, to be rich and famous.

44. Jack Antonoff once referred to himself as “a straight man with, like, lesbian chemicals,” adding, “You can be a man who loves a woman but love someone the way a gay man loves another man or a woman loves a woman.” Yeah, that’s not a thing, Jack.

45. You gotta love when celebs just straight-up lie for no real reason at all. In 2017, Suki Waterhouse told Us Weekly, “I rinse my hair with Coca-Cola sometimes. I don’t like my hair when it’s washed — it’s fine and limp — but Coca-Cola makes it tousled, like I’ve gone through the Amazon or something.” This led to multiple outlets testing the apparent beauty hack. Suki later admitted she’d lied because she was bored.

When a fan on Twitter, asked her if she still used Coke on her hair, she replied, “ok.. i have to be honest, i got bored doing hair interviews and said this. i have never done this ma’am.” Honestly, I love this trolling.

46. I still find the late Matthew Perry’s comments about Keanu Reeves so, so random. In his book, Perry wrote, “It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” Later, after describing his reaction to Chris Farley’s death, he wrote again, “Keanu Reeves walks among us.” What was your deal with Keanu, man???

47. Fun fact about Lady Gaga: she essentially cosplayed as the FBI after the January 6 Capitol riots. “I walked through the Capitol like a detective and looked for evidence of the truth. Because we see these things on screens, right? We witness these things on the news,” she said. “But to be there in person, I was afraid.” Lady Gaga, everyone – private detective.

48. Gwen Stefani once said something I don’t think she’ll ever live down, at least to me. In an interview with Allure, she spoke about admiring Japanese culture (which led her to create the fragrance brand Harajuku Lovers) after her father told her stories about work trips to Japan while she was growing up. She added that when she finally got to go to Japan herself, she exclaimed, “My God, I’m Japanese and I didn’t know it” because of how much she connected with the culture. Um…eek.

49. Similarly, Pink once told a whole room of people she was gay. The bizarre part? She’s not, and quickly followed up with that fact. The quote comes from a Human Rights Campaign event, where she was receiving the Ally for Equality Award. I guess she was trying to make a point about normalizing coming out, but…it didn’t quite land.

“My point is I would like the same boring response that I get from, ‘Hi, I’m a Virgo,'” Pink said. “I would like ‘Hi, I’m gay’ to elicit the same type of response.” While her intentions were good, the whole pretending-to-come-out thing was maybe not the best way to show support for a community she’s not a part of.

50. Alyssa Milano had a similarly bizarre tweet. She wrote, “I’m trans. I’m a person of color. I’m an immigrant. I’m a lesbian. I’m a gay man. I’m the disabled. I’m everything.” Milano is none of the above, and quickly started receiving backlash. I guess it was a point about allyship, but it was a weird way to do it. Fans were also unhappy with her use of the term “the disabled.”

51. While I applaud Adrian Grenier for being an environmentalist, the bizarre way this quote was worded always sticks with me. In an interview with the Cut in 2016, Grenier said, “We consume 500 million straws each day. The equivalent of 127 school buses filled with straws. It’s disgusting,” he said. “There should be children in those school buses, going to school, to learn, not straws.” Uh, thanks for your input?

In another somewhat bizarre attempt at environmental activism, Sheryl Crow once said that people should use “only one square [of toilet paper] per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two or three could be required.” She continued, “We are an industrious enough people that we can make it work.” There’s gotta be another way, Sheryl.

Crow also spoke about how wasteful paper napkins are and even designed clothes with a “dining sleeve” people can use while eating instead of a napkin.

53. Finally, we’ll end on one of the wildest examples. After visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam in 2013, Justin Bieber wrote in the guest book: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.” What an absolutely unhinged thing to say, even as a teenage pop idol.
